Victor Jara's murder: two sentenced men are on the run

In Chile, police confirmed that two former military officers convicted of the 1973 murder of singer-songwriter Victor Jara are on the run.

They were identified as former army officers Raúl Jofré González and Nelson Haase Mazzei, who fled after the verdict was announced, according to local media reports.

It is worth remembering that another defendant, Hernán Chacón Soto, took his own life when he was about to be arrested.

On Monday, the Chilean Supreme Court handed down a 25-year prison sentence to seven former military officers for Jara's abduction and death.

The poet died a few days after the coup d'état of 11 September 1973, when then president Salvador Allende was overthrown.

Jara was then confined in the National Stadium in Santiago, which the military had turned into a concentration camp.
