Javier Milei is Argentina´s new president

Javier Milei will be sworn in as president of Argentina on Sunday, in a day of which some details are known.

At 11 a.m the president-elect will go to the National Congress in Buenos Aires.

Before the Legislative Assembly, which gathers all the senators and representatives, he will be sworn in as Head of State for the period 2023-2027.

The libertarian will receive the presidential sash and the baton from the his predecessor, Alberto Fernández.

It is expected that Milei will not give there the first speech of his administration, but will do it outside the building, from the steps of the Parliament.

It is there where he will speak before his followers, who have been called to accompany him with Argentine flags at the gates of the Legislative Palace.

It is expected that in this message the libertarian will announce several measures and present a package of reforms to be sent to Congress the following day.

Afterwards, the new Head of State will be driven in a convertible car along Avenida de Mayo to the Casa Rosada, a tradition that has not been observed since the inauguration of Fernando de la Rúa, in December 1999.

At the Presidential Palace, Milei will swear in his government team and receive the greetings of foreign leaders.

Among the presidents confirmed to be present are Uruguay's Luis Lacalle Pou, Ecuador's Gustavo Noboa, Paraguay's Santiago Peña and Hungary's Viktor Orban.

At 7 p.m., Milei will attend an multifaith ceremony at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Buenos Aires.

The day will end with a "presidential gala" at the Colón Theater, where Giacomo Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" will be performed.
