Fires in Chile kill over 100 people

Fires in Chile have already left 112 dead, President Gabriel Boric's government confirmed on Sunday.

The latter said this the biggest tragedy for the country since the 2010 earthquake, which left 500 dead.

The worst-hit region is Valparaíso, where flames advance through the hills, reaching the residential area of the city of Viña del Mar.

Rescue teams continue to search for survivors and recover bodies, in a context of incinerated homes and vehicles.

Local authorities informed that there are more than 350 people that are reported as missing.

In this context, president Boric described as "miserable" those behind the fires, which are being investigated as intentional.

He decreed two days of national mourning for the victims of the fire, which spread easily due to drought, a heat wave and strong winds.
