Nation vs Provinces over funds RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Court rules in favor of Chubut

A court ordered the national government to transfer the funds claimed by the Patagonian province of Chubut.

They are about 13 million dollars that Javier Milei's administration withheld citing a pending debt of the district with the Nation.

But this Tuesday, a federal judge ruled that it must deposit the money deducted from the monthly amount received by the provinces: the so-called "coparticipation".

Torres had threatened to suspend the delivery of oil to the rest of the country in protest and other Patagonian governors supported him.

But the Chubut governor assured yesterday that the court decision settled the dispute.

However, Milei's government will seek to appeal the sentence and have the Supreme Court intervene, according to sources in the Casa Rosada.

His administration has been making cuts and downsizing of all kinds with the declared purpose of balancing the public accounts, to reach zero deficit and lower inflation.

In the context of the Chubut issue, Patagonian governors urged dialogue with Buenos Aires and invited the President to a ummit in Puerto Madryn.

But yesterday presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni stated: "For the moment it is not in the plans to call the governors".

Mr Milei, on his part, expressed yesterday in X: "it is possible to see the political caste wallowing in misery and appealing to all kinds of lies to defend their privileges".

"Caste" is the term that the libertarian used during last year’s campaign to name the traditional political leadership and system in Argentina.
