Charly Garcia turns 70 and Argentina celebrates

Argentines will celebrate on October 23 the 70th birthday of singer and songwriter Charly Garcia, a genius whose songs reflect the urban landscape of a country always in turmoil.

As part of the events, the Ministry of Culture of the city of Buenos Aires holds throughout October a series of events with music, photography, plastic arts and literature on García, featuring various musicians who are close friends and collaborators of the rock star, such as Hilda Lizarazu, Rosario Ortega, Fabián Quintiero and Fernando Samalea.

The public can submit their artworks to celebrate Charly's birthday to https://charlyba.buenosaires.gob.ar/. Selected pieces will become part of a virtual gallery.

Until not long ago, García used to celebrate his birthday with improvised concerts near his house in the Palermo neighborhood of BA.

A member of classic bands such as Serú Girán, Sui Generis, La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros, he's written songs the that are already part of the Argentine cultural DNA: "Nos siguen pegando abajo" ("They keep on hitting us with low blows"), "Los Dinosaurios"(The Dinosaurs"), "Canción para mi muerte" ("Song for my Death"), "Confesiones de Invierno" ("Winter Confessions") and many more.

Here 's "Nos siguen pegando abajo".
