RAE ARGENTINA TO THE WORLD

Argentina celebrates Copa America glory across the nation

This Saturday Argentina were crowned champions of the Copa America defeating historic rivals Brazil 1-0 in the final, at the Maracana stadium, the football temple of that country. The decisive goal and the end of the match unleashed a wave of celebrations all over the country, that exceeded all control measures against COVID.

It had been 28 years since the national team had won a major title. In addition, one of the best players of all time, Lionel Messi, is the captain of a squad that was under heavy criticism over the years.

Messi, on his official Instagram account, wrote to his fans that this achievement "goes for all of you and of course it is also for Diego, who surely supported us from wherever he is".

The national team's all-time leading scorer dedicated the epic victory in Rio de Janeiro to his family because they gave him 'the strength to go on, to his friends and to all the people who supported him. Also, "and especially, to the 45 million Argentines who had such a hard time with this shitty virus, especially to those who were most affected by it".

The celebrations ranged from the Obelisco, in the heart of the city of Buenos Aires, to the Marambio Base, in Antarctica, as shown in some of this footage.
