Icebreaker Irizar ready for Antarctic campaign

The Argentine Navy's icebreaker, the ARA Almirante Irízar, completed the training and technical preparations prior to the 2023-2024 Antarctic campaign.

The ship arrived early this morning at the Port of Buenos Aires after five days of maneuvers in the Argentine sea, with a crew of 116 people.

"Both the personnel and the equipment are 100% operational," confirmed Frigate Captain Luis Matias Arbini to Télam.

The Irízar will leave in the next few weeks for Ushuaia to start a series of voyages between the two continents for five months.

The objective of the campaign is to survey the garrisons of the 13 bases that Argentina maintains in Antarctica, in addition to supplying them for the winter.
